About this piece

Slim, hand-stitched, and built for the carry-on lifestyle. Full-grain Italian leather with internal RFID blocking your passport’s biometric chip stays unread until you choose.

What it holds

  • 1× passport (standard biometric; UK, EU, US, Canadian, Australian all fit)
  • 4× cards (typically debit + credit + driving licence + insurance)
  • 2-3× boarding passes (folded once, in the rear pouch)
  • 1× SIM card (hidden pocket near spine)
  • 1× pen (slim travel pen up to 9mm)

Total weight when packed: 110g. Roughly the weight of a smartphone.

Why this over a basic passport sleeve

Three reasons the holder beats a basic sleeve:

  1. RFID blocking on the chip; biometric passports have an RFID chip readable up to 10cm. A leather sleeve doesn’t block it; this lining does.
  2. Cards consolidated in one place — your travel cards live with the passport, not scattered across pockets and bags.
  3. Pen and SIM included the small details that make customs forms and SIM swaps less frustrating.

How the RFID blocking works

The inner lining is metallised nylon: a thin conductive Faraday weave that blocks 13.56 MHz radio frequencies (the ISO/IEC 14443 contactless standard). This is the same frequency used by:

  • Biometric passport chips
  • Contactless debit and credit cards
  • Hotel keycards and access passes
  • TfL Oyster cards

When the holder is closed, all of these are shielded. When you take the passport or a card out to use it, the chip works normally; the protection is only while inside.

Build details

  • Leather: full-grain Italian calf, vegetable-tanned, aniline-finished. Develops patina with use; doesn’t peel or crack
  • Stitching: hand-stitched edges using waxed linen thread; saddle stitch at stress points
  • Hardware: brass pen loop (won’t tarnish), hidden snap closure on SIM pocket
  • Lining: RFID-blocking metallised nylon, smooth interior, won’t scuff the passport cover

Best for

  • Frequent business travellers — protects passport + consolidates cards in one place
  • First international trip particularly good as a graduation or first-job gift before a major trip
  • Honeymoon or anniversary gift: leather is the traditional 3rd anniversary gift
  • Replacing a worn passport sleeve; upgrade from the airport-shop nylon sleeve to something built for years

Not the right product for

  • Multi-currency travellers wanting to hold large amounts of cash from different countries — get a fold-out travel wallet instead
  • Frequent flyers wanting boarding-pass holders with built-in slot for multiple passes this holds 2-3 max
  • Anyone wanting a “decoy wallet” for theft: too well-made and visible for that role

Care

Wipe monthly with a slightly damp cloth, dry immediately. Apply neutral leather conditioner (Saphir Renovateur, Kiwi neutral) every 6 months. Avoid prolonged sunlight (will dry out the leather over years). Keep dry; water marks on full-grain leather take weeks to fade.

Questions answered

Will my UK passport fit? +

Yes fits standard UK biometric passports comfortably (88mm × 125mm). Also fits EU biometric passports (same standard size) and the larger US passport (which is slightly thicker than UK; still fits comfortably).

Does it really block RFID skimming on the passport chip? +

Yes, the inner lining is a metallised nylon Faraday weave that blocks 13.56 MHz contactless reads. Independently tested. Your biometric passport chip stays unread until you choose to present it (taking the passport out of the wallet at the immigration desk).

Why does a passport need RFID protection? +

Modern biometric passports contain an RFID chip with your name, date of birth, photo, and biometric data. The chip is readable from up to 10cm away by anyone with a contactless reader. RFID skimming of passports is rarer than card skimming but does occur — particularly in crowded transport hubs and busy airports. The blocking lining adds a passive defence against this.

What's the SIM pocket for? +

Storing your home SIM card while travelling on a foreign one. Tiny pocket near the spine, secured by a leather flap. Many international travellers swap to a local SIM on arrival; this stops the home SIM ending up loose in a backpack.

How many cards does it hold? +

4 card slots: typical configuration is debit card, credit card, driving licence, and one travel insurance card or hotel loyalty card. The pouch behind also takes 2-3 boarding passes folded once.

Will the leather scratch up in a backpack or carry-on? +

It will develop patina (small scratches and a slight darkening) from normal travel use this is desirable on full-grain leather and improves the look over years. It won't crack, peel, or split. Aniline-finished, so the dye is in the leather not on it.

Is the pen loop useful? +

Yes, for filling in immigration arrival forms (most countries still require these) and customs declarations without rummaging for a pen at the back of a queue. Fits any standard slim travel pen up to 9mm diameter (a Fisher Bullet Pen is the classic match).

How thick is it when packed full? +

1.5cm at the spine, 1cm at the edges. Comfortably fits inside a jacket inner pocket, or in the side pouch of any carry-on. Significantly slimmer than 'travel wallets' designed to also hold cash + multiple currencies; this is built for documents, not bulk.

Where is the leather sourced? +

Italian full-grain calf, vegetable-tanned then aniline-finished. Sourced from a Tuscan tannery that supplies the European luxury goods sector. Develops a richer dark patina with age.

Is this a good gift? +

Yes — particularly good for: anyone with frequent international travel for work; a 25th-50th birthday for a traveller; a graduation gift for someone planning a gap year; an engagement gift before a honeymoon. Ships in branded LuxuryTrex packaging.
