About this piece
Symmetry is safe. Symmetry is forgettable. The asymmetric mirror is for rooms that want to be remembered.
This frameless statement piece breaks the rectangular tyranny of standard wall mirrors with hand-cut organic curves on every edge. No two production batches are identical the cut pattern is templated but the polishing is done by hand, so each mirror has a slightly different fingerprint along the bevel.
Why asymmetric, not rectangular
Rectangular mirrors mirror the architecture they live on. Asymmetric mirrors disrupt it. In small or narrow spaces: hallways, entryway walls, between two doors; that disruption is what makes the room feel larger. Your eye finds the irregular edge, follows the reflection, and the brain stops registering the wall as “narrow.”
This is a particularly useful trick in rented or new-build flats where straight-edged architectural detail is missing. The mirror provides the visual interest the room lacks.
Where it works best
- Narrow hallways — bounces light from the front door deeper inside
- Above a console table in an entryway creates a focal point that’s neither a picture nor a clock
- Across from a window: multiplies natural light in north-facing rooms
- Living room dead wall; replaces the obvious “large landscape print” with something less expected
- Bedroom feature wall — beside (not above) a bed for full-length checking
Install in 30 minutes
The mirror ships with two pre-fitted concealed steel brackets, two wall anchors rated for plasterboard or masonry, and a paper template that you tape to the wall to mark the drill points. Most people install it solo in under 30 minutes.
The “floating” effect comes from the bracket design there’s a 1cm gap between the back of the mirror and the wall, with the brackets hidden behind so you see no visible hardware.
Looking after it
Mist with a 50/50 water + white vinegar mix on a microfibre cloth. Avoid spray-direct-on-mirror: moisture can wick under the glass and tarnish the silvering at the edge. Don’t use ammonia-based glass cleaners on the bevelled edges; they can dull the polish over time.
Indoor dry rooms only. Not rated for bathroom humidity.
Questions answered
Is an asymmetric mirror suitable for a small hallway? +
Yes asymmetric mirrors are particularly effective in narrow spaces because the irregular edge breaks up the rectangular geometry of the wall, making the space feel less boxy. The reflection bounces natural light deeper into the hallway.
How is the mirror fixed to the wall? +
Concealed steel brackets are pre-fitted to the back of the mirror. You drill two anchor points in the wall (template included), insert the wall plugs, then hang the mirror, it sits flush. Total install time is 20-30 minutes.
Can it be hung in portrait or landscape orientation? +
Designed for portrait orientation (100cm tall × 70cm wide). The asymmetric cut is calibrated for vertical hanging — landscape would look unbalanced.
Will it work above a fireplace? +
Best avoided directly above a fireplace: the heat over time can affect the silvering at the back of the glass. For above-mantle placement, hang at least 30cm above the heat source.
Is the glass safety-backed? +
Yes, 5mm silvered float glass with a fully laminated hardwood backing. If the glass were ever to break, the backing holds the fragments in place rather than shattering loose.
Is this an oversized mirror, what wall space do I need? +
Allow at least 110cm vertical clearance and 80cm horizontal to leave breathing room. The mirror itself is 100cm × 70cm but visually needs space around it to feel intentional.
Does the mirror come with a hanging template? +
Yes; a paper template prints the exact bracket positions so you can mark and drill the wall accurately before lifting the mirror into position.
Suitable for bathrooms? +
Indoor dry rooms only. The hardwood backing is not rated for the humidity of a bathroom — use a purpose-built bathroom mirror for wet areas.
