Vintage finish: what it actually is
The bag arrives looking like it has 5-10 years of use already on it. This is intentional. The leather is sanded by hand during finishing to add character marks, then re-conditioned to lock in the distressed look.
Three reasons people choose this finish over a brand-new uniform leather bag:
- No “first scratch” anxiety; the bag already has marks, so the inevitable first scratch isn’t a tragedy
- Reads as character, not wear — colleagues read distressed leather as taste; new uniform leather reads as a recent purchase
- Patinas on top of patina your actual use adds another layer to the existing finish, building character over years

Yes the padded laptop compartment fits up to 14.5" laptops including MacBook Pro 14 (31.3cm × 22.1cm), Dell XPS 14 (31.0cm × 21.7cm), Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 (31.5cm × 22.2cm), Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 13.5" (30.8cm × 22.3cm). The compartment is 32cm × 23cm × 3cm with felt-lined padding.
Will a 15-inch or 16-inch MacBook fit? +
Tight squeeze for the MacBook Pro 16 (35.6cm × 24.8cm), likely fits but no padding margin. The Dell XPS 15 fits comfortably. For 16"+ laptops, look for a dedicated 15-16" leather bag — this one is optimised for the more common 13-14" form factor.
Real top-grain leather or PU? +
Genuine top-grain Italian leather. 'Top-grain' means the upper layer of the hide (the strongest, most durable part) with a slight surface buff to remove imperfections. This is one tier below 'full-grain' (which keeps every imperfection for character). Top-grain is more uniform-looking; full-grain has more visible markings. Both are real leather; both develop patina.
Why is it called 'vintage finish'? +
The leather is hand-distressed during finishing: a careful sanding and re-conditioning process that gives the bag the look of 5-10 years of use straight out of the box. This is intentional aesthetic; it's not damage. The bag will continue to develop genuine patina on top of the existing distressing as you actually use it.
Is the strap adjustable and removable? +
Yes adjustable from 90cm to 140cm (fits any height comfortably). Detaches at both ends via solid brass clips, so you can use the bag as a briefcase carried by the top handle when the strap isn't needed (e.g. in formal settings).
How much does it weigh? +
1.4kg empty. With a 14" laptop, charger, notebook, and pens, expect 3.5-4kg total. Heavier than a nylon messenger bag (which would be 800g empty) but the durability and aesthetic justify the trade-off for most professional users. Padded shoulder strap distributes weight comfortably for daily commute use.
Is it waterproof? +
Water-resistant, not waterproof. Light rain rolls off the leather surface; the bag will protect a laptop in a 10-minute walk through drizzle. Don't soak, prolonged heavy rain will eventually penetrate. For aggressive weather conditions, use a leather waterproofing spray (Saphir Wax, Collonil Waterstop) every 6 months.
